On April 27, 1960, Harry Wu, a student at the Geology Institute of Beijing, was arrested by Chinese authorities and, without being taken to trial or even being formally accused, was sent to a forced labor camp. For almost 20 years he was imprisoned in various camps, denied all of his rights, and forced to work to exhaustion. Wu went from being part of the country's intellectual elite to being a pariah, imprisoned with common criminals and enduring hunger, suffering brutal.
